LADYCATS HAVE TERRIFIC FINISH TO SEASON
Article by Joe Basketball
While it was a battle only for 6th place (of 8) in Region 5A, it was the last game, a home game, Senior night, and against local rival White Knoll.. so it had a lot of themes going for it. With inspired senior leadership by Molly VanWyk, Alli Edens, and Becca Dial, the Lady Cats pulled out a tense, see-saw game in the end, 52-47. Making 17 of 21 free throws in the second half, in a very tightly called game, was the difference.
Molly, had a season high 23 points in her last game, including 12/13 from the charity stripe. Becca Dial had perhaps her strongest overall game of the season , finished with 7 points, including 5/6 from the line, as well as her typical large number of floor burns and bruises. Until pulled out with 1.9 second left, Alli Edens played her fearless point guard role the entire game, giving her all on both ends of the floor. Sophomore Morgan Hause had her best game of the season also, with several key rebounds and 8 points, with 7 of those coming in the second half. Janai Pinckney had two crowd-appealing blocked shots under the basket to go along with her 4 points. It was a great effort by all involved and was a nice ending to the season.
The Lady Cats finish the season 8-15 overall, and 3-11 in region. The team graduates 3 seniors and had 3 freshman with significant minutes, and is still a young team overall.
