MID STATE QUALIFIER

Both Lexington Boys and Girls successfully advanced to the State Championship which will be held at Sandhills next Saturday (Nov. 8th).  The Boys placed second overall in the Mid State Qualifier while the Girls placed third overall.   The boys  were led by Will Belue who finished 5th overall individually with a time of 17:05 and Zac deMoya (15th overall)  who tied his personal record with a time of 17:27. The Boys also managed to beat Spring Valley who is the #5 ranked team in the state.  The Girls placed third overall and were led by 8th grader Meri Heneage with a time of 20:40. Four of the Five girls teams who advanced to the State championship through the Mid Qualifier are members of Region V which indicates how tough this region is in Girls Cross Country.  Good luck to the runners at the State Championship!!!

Coach Harris with his Young Guns

The future looks very bright for Lexington High School as the 7th and 8th graders have turned in incredibly strong performances in 2008.  Erik Wendt currently has six performances listed in the 8th grade's top 25 top performances including his PR of 18:04.   The 7th grade class has six runners who have ran under 22:00 this season.  They are led by Tony Morales who owns the school record for the fastest time by a 7th grader (18:11) and has participated with the varsity squad this season.  Tony owns the top seven performances by a 7th grader.  Thomas Harris and Jared Holley have also been very strong runners. Thomas has a top 10 performance with a PR of 18:57 while Jared also has a top 10 performance with a PR of 19:07.  Not far behind are Evans Mill (20:39),  Marshall Denny (19:50) and Andrew Calamas (20:54).

Lexington Varsity Boys placed second in the Lexington County Championship while the Varsity Girls placed fifth.  Drew Harris (17:17), Will Belue (17:32), and David Wilson (17:34) were all named to the All County team.
