JV WILDCATS STRUT THEIR STUFF
The JV Baseball team headed into spring break with an undefeated record.  They participated in the Spring Break Tournament held at Spring Valley High School.  In the first game on 3/24 Lexington took on Gilbert.  The Wildcats wasted no time in shutting down the Indians in 6 innings by a final of 11-1. In the second game Lexington took on Swansea.  The cats invoked the mercy rule by shutting out the Tigers 16-0 in 5 innings.  Dillion Jointer had a grand slam and Preston Calamas had 2 triples in the contest.  This put the Cats in the Championship game to be held on 3/25 against a good Dutch Fork team. The Wildcats pulled out the win in 9 innings by a final of 11-10.  Way to go Cats!! Special thanks to B. Powell for the updates!

WILDCATS WIN 2 AT FOREST ACRES CLASSIC
The LHS Varsity Baseball Team got back on track with wins over West Cateret & Spring Valley Tuesday & Wednesday after dropping a 6 - 4 loss at White Knoll last Thursday night.  In the 2:00 game Tuesday, Gus White tossed a 4-hitter & the Cats took advantage of a shakey Patriots "D" to down West Cateret out of Moorehead, NC 4 - 1.  White ran his season record to 4 - 1 with the victory.  Matt Van Laan, Chris Harper & Anthony Carden had key hits for the Wildcats.
Lexington avenged an early season loss to Spring Valley by pasting the Vikings 9-5 Tuesday afternoon.  Lefty Robert Hendrix scattered 5 hits with 5 K's & 2 walks to pickup the complete game win & improve to 2 - 0.  The Cats chased SV ace Rob Harding from the game after the 3rd inning.  Derrick Smith,Matt Van Laan, Robert Hendrix, Gus White & Jonathan Turner each collected 2 hits to pace a potent Lexington attack.  The Wildcats are now 10 - 3 for the season.
The Cats take on host team AC Flora Thursday night at 8:00 at the Falcons field.  The game will be broadcast on Sportsradio 1400 AM.  The winner of this game will play in the tourney championship on Friday.

CATS SWAT YELLOW JACKETS           LEXINGTON AT IRMO
For the 2nd game in a row, the Wildcat pitching staff threw a 3-hitter at the opposition.  This time Sr Gus White took the mound & dominated a heavy hitting Irmo club.  LHS C Jonathan Turner got things started with a 1-out 1st inning single to center.  RF Alex Brooks banged a single into right.  CF Anthony Carden walked & RF Matt Van Laan plated pinch-runner Andrew Chandler with SAC fly to left to give the Cats a 1 - 0 lead.  In the 2nd, DH Chris Harper roped a ball into right...SS Derrick Smith ripped a base hit...Turner reached on an error forcing Harper at 3rd...Brooks scored Smith with a single up the middle.  LHS 2  Irmo 0.  To open the 4th, Turner & Brooks got on by errors.  Carden hit safely to right scoring Chandler again.  Van Laan rocked a fastball into left driving in Brooks but the Good Guys left the bases full to end the 5th.  Never fear!!! The Big Cat Bats cranked up again in the 6th.  Brooks led off with a base hit to left & stole 2nd.  Carden cracked one to left scoring Brooks.  Van Laan delivered with his 3rd RBI busting a pitch up the middle plating Carden & took 2nd on the throw to the plate to push the Wildcats up 6 - 0. Up til 2 outs in the, 6th Gus White had thrown a no-hitter at the Jackets...WOW!!  He improved to 3 - 1 with the win allowing 2 ER on 3 H, 0 W & 9 K's.  Final score Wildcats 6  Irmo 2.  The Cats play a huge game at White Knoll Thursday starting at 7:30   BE THERE!!!Great Job Guys!!!   GO CATS!!!                   Catmanfan

LADYCATS SOFTBALL TEAM NIPS IRMO
The varsity softball team nipped Irmo in a region match up on Tuesday afternoon at home. Shanna Henson got the win. Brittany Carr went 2-4 for the Ladycats.  The Ladycat improve to 4-4 on the season and 2-0 in region play.

LADYCAT SOCCER WIN 6TH IN A ROW
The varsity girls soccer team hosted Aiken on Tuesday evening in their region opener.  The Lady Hornets were a good team with great defensive skills but proved no match for the redhot Ladycats.  Kerra Campbell scored the first goal right before the end of the first half.  The second half the Ladycats played with renewed determination with Emily Adams and Charlotte Hall both scoring goals.  The Ladycats improved to 10-0 on the season. In the earlier contest the JV Ladycats dominated the Aiken JV team 6-0 to remain perfect on the season!

WILDCATS WIN REGION OPENER
The varsity boys soccer team travled down I-20 to face Aiken in their region opener on Tuesday evening. The Wildcats were riding a 4 game winning streak heading into tonights contest.  The Hornets proved no match for the speed and experience ofthe Wildcats as the cats blanked Aiken 4-0. Tanner Osborne the keeper for the Cats has only allowed 5 goals this season. Andrew Chazarria/ Cade Weatherly, Reel Callison and Josh VanWyk scored goals for the Wildcats! The JV Wildcats defeated Aiken in the first contest by a final score of 4-0.

WILDCAT GOLFERS PLACE 3RD!
Congratulations to the boy's golf team for their 3rd place finish in the
2008 Capital Classic. The Wildcats were tied for 6th after shooting a
first round 316 led by Cole Thornton's 74 and Grant Bouknight's 77.
In the 2nd round the Wildcat golfers shot the 2nd best round of the
day with Jordan Sease and Cole Thornton each shooting 1-under par
71's and Grant Bouknight and Brooks Massey shooting 79 for a team
total of 300 and a 2-day total of 616, 4 shots behind winner West Florence. Cole Thornton shot a two-round total of  145 to finish tied for 3rd out of 110 golfers and Jordan Sease shot 150 to tie for 6th individually with both earning all- tournament team honors.
The golf team plays White Knoll at Indian River tomorrow at 4:00.

LADYCAT JASMINE COUNCIL HELPS NORTH WIN
Jasmine played in the basketball all star game this past weekend in Myrtle Beach.  She hit 50% from 3 point range.  Jasmine played on the North team and they defeated the South. Coach David Long was also honored as being one of the coaches on the team! Congratulations to Coach Long and Jasmine!

WILDCATS SWEEPS SERIES...CLAIM #1 RANKING                        
MARCH 14 & 15
LHS's Varsity completed this week's play with 2 wins on Saturday & climbed to #1 in the 4A SCHSL Poll.  In the 1st game, the Cats battled back from a big hole to pick up a tough 8 - 7 victory over a scrappy Augusta Christian club.  1B Robert Hendrix drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 7th to give the Wildcats a hard-fought win.  RF Alex Brooks was 2/3, CF Anthony Carden was 2/4 & RF Matt Van Laan was 3/4 at the plate to spark the Cat's "O".  Righthander Kyle Turner picked up the win with 4 outstanding innings of shutout relief. 
In the afternoon contest against Laurens, LHS jumped out to a 1 - 0 lead in the 1st.  C Johnny Turner walked.  P Alex Brooks singled sharply to score pinch-runner Jack Blackwell & put the Cats on the board.  Lexington tacked on another run in the 4th when DH Charlton Herpst walked & took 2nd on a past ball.  3B Brandon Baker plated Herpst with a base knock to put the Good Guys up 2 - 0.  With Brooks breezing thru a talented Laurens lineup, the Wildcats racked up their last run in the 6th.  CF Andrew Chandler reached on an infield hit & when 2B Derrick B Smith crushed a double over the leftfielder's head, the speedy Chandler scored to make it a 3 - 0 lead.  The Raiders finally punched across a run in their last at bat to spoil the shutout.  Final...Lexington 3...Laurens 1.  Brooks finished with a complete game win to post a 3-0 record with 3 H, 11 K, 0 W & 1 ER.
Kudos to the Players & Coaches for a great weekend of LHS Baseball!!Congrats on the wins & #1 Ranking!!!  The Wildcats will cross the dam to take on Irmo on Tuesday at 6:00...load up the bus!!

CATS CLAW HORNETS
Mother nature & the Baseball Gods smiled on the Lexington Varsity Baseball Team Friday night.  Not only did the weather hold off, it was a great evening for America's favorite game, but the Wildcats may have found their batting stroke as they pounded out 10 hits & 10 runs in route to a 10 - 0 win over Aiken.  Lefty Robert Hendrix threw a 4-hit 5 inning shutout picking up his 1st win over region rival AHS.  The Cats  "O" got going early in the 2nd when RF Matt Van Laan smacked a double.  DH Chris Harper followed with a single along with P Robert Hendrix.  With 2 runs already in, 1B Kyle Turner stepped to the plate & just torched a fastball into the leftfield stratosphere for a 2 run dinger(hint: he's not thru either!!)  C Johnny Turner walked, Rf Alex Brooks drove in pinch runner Andrew Chandler & CF Anthony Carden busted a double into the gap to plate Brooks & spot Hendrix & the Wildcats a 6 - 0 lead.  LHS tacked on another run in the 5th .  2B Derrick Smith singled.  Alex Brooks picked up his 2nd RBI of the night as he delivered with a single scoring the speedy Smith to propell the Cats to a 7 - 0 advantage.  In the 6th, SS Gus White walked, Hendrix reached on an error & here comes "Killer" Kyle Turner who jacks a 3-run shot over the leftfield fence...again!!!  Ballgame...A 5 inning, 10 run win for the "Good Guys."  Robert Hendrix ended his complete game whitewash with 4 hits, 2 walks & 4 K's.  Man...did these boys deserve a game this!!  The Wildcats will take on SCISSA power Augusta Christian Saturday at 10:00 & Laurensin a 3:00 contest.

WILDCAT TENNIS BRINGS IT HOME
The boys varsity tennis team traveled to Florence this past weekend to participate in the Florence Tournament.  The Wildcats' first opponent was James Island whom the Wildcats blew past 6-0. Then the cats played a good Camden team and won 5-1. Next up for the cats was Charlotte Latin out of North Carolina which proved no match for the mighty cats.  The Cats moved into the Finals against a power house, a private school called Providence Day. The wildcats lost at 1, 2, and 3....won 4 and 5, so it came down to Derek Dickey and Jordan Hunter to pull it out. Both players won their matches and the Wildcats won the tournament 4-3. This tournament showcased just how good this Wildcat team is.. They are on a mission with one thing on their minds.. Another state championship to add to their trophy case! Way to go cats!!!

WILDCATS "BOMB" THOROUGHBREDS            LHS vs S AIKEN
Lexington's varsity baseball team broke out the BIG sticks Tuesday night as SS Derrick B Smith & RF Matt Van Laan smacked homers to power the #2 ranked Wildcats over S Aiken 5 - 1.   Righthander Gus White tossed a 2-hitter with 5 K's & 1 ER over 6 complete innings to pick up the win for LHS.  The Cats got 1 run in the 1st after LF Alex Brooks drew a 2-out walk, CF Anthony Carden reached on a SA error, Van Laan walked & DH Jack 
Blackwell drove in Brooks on an error by the T-Bred SS.  With Gus White cruising thru S Aiken lineup, the "Good Guys" cranked back up in the bottom of the 4th.  Blackwell reached 1st after a drive into the hole that the S Aiken SS couldn't handle & then stole 2nd.  1B Robert Hendrix singled & advanced to 2nd.  Pinch-hitter Chris Harper hit a sac fly to plate Blackwell.  That's when SS Derrick Smith cranked a 2-run shot over left center, his 2nd jack of the season, to put the Cats up 4 - 1.  In the 6th with 2 outs, Matt Van Laan smoked a laser over the leftfield fence to give LHS a 5 - 1 cushion.  Sr Parker Fleming came on in the 7th & shut down S Aiken on a 7 pitch inning to close out the game.  Besides the obvious fireworks, Robert Hendrix & Anthony Carden both had a 2 hit night for the Wildcats. The Cats will host Aiken Friday night at 7:00 at LHS field with games Saturday vs Augusta Christian at 12:00 & then Laurens at 5:00 both at Lexington.

GOLF TEAM SHOOTS BY AIRPORT
The boy's golf team shot 152 to defeat Airport by 10 shots yesterday at the Country Club of Lexington. it was the 20th match win in a row for the golf team dating back to last season. Brooks Massey and Jordan Sease shot even par 36, Cole Thornton shot 38 and Nathan Lyles and Ajeet Badesha each shot 42. The golf team plays in the Capital Classic tomorrow and Friday at Wildewood and the Woodlands.

WILDCAT TENNIS TEAM ON THE PROWL
The varsity boys tennis team is once again dominating teams they face in regular season play.  The Wildcats went into cruise control mode as they faced North Augusta on Tuesday afternoon at home.  The Wildcats won the match 6-0 with all Wildcat players dominating their opponents. JV TENNIS TEAM CRUISES
The JV tennis team easily handled Dorman at Topspin Racquet Club Tuesday.  The Wildcats dominated from the beginning and won 6 - 0.  This win improves the JV record to 3 - 0.

LADYCATS ROLLS PAST SOUTH AIKEN
The varsity girls softball team defeated South Aiken on Tuesday night by a final score of 4-1. Sarah Parks was the winning pitcher.  Kayley Wilson and Brittany Carr both went 2-4 for the Ladycats to lead the Ladycats hitting.

VARSITY TENNIS BLANKS SOUTH AIKEN
The boys varsity tennis team opened up the regular season on Thursday at home against South Aiken.  The Wildcats begin their journey for a bid for another state title to add to their already excellent credentials against the Throughbreds.  The cats cruised to a 6-0 victory! This team is composed of six seniors with plenty of experience and they have been there and done that and have a taste for more.  The Wildcats fell short last season in the state finals against West Florence and hope to make it to state again this season..  Check the scoring recap for a breakdown of players scores. JV TENNIS SHUTS DOWN DORMAN
The boy's JV tennis team traveled to Dorman Thursday for a much anticipated match.  As it turned out, the wildcats easily disposed of the Dorman Cavaliers.  The Wildcats won 6-0.
Brian Lim played #1 singles and  easily won 6-0, 6-2.  Grayson Hill played #2 singles.  He struggled in the first set winning 6-4.  He then dominated the second set winning 6-1.  William Lightle played #3 singles.  He  was able to win his match 6-2, 6-0.  Hampton Pickens and Zack Seymor played # 4 and #5 singles.  Both players had no trouble defeating their opponents.  Hampton won 6-2, 6-1.  Zack won 6-0, 6-2.  Brandon Matthews and Ryan Lavisky played #2 doubles for the cats.  They easily disposed of their opponents 6-1, 6-0.
The JV team has its first home match next week.  We play Dorman on March 11 at 5:30 at Topspin.  Then on Thursday we play Airport at 4:30 at LHS.

WILDCATS COME UP SHORT IN OPENER                                       LEXINGTON vs DUTCH FORK
LHS's varsity baseball team spotted Dutch Fork a 5-1 lead for 5 innings & then mounted a furious rally only to drop a 5-4 regular season opening game to the Silver Foxes.  Matt Van Laan walked & scored in the 1st for the Wildcats.  Gus White started for the Cats & pitched thru the 4th.  Robert Hendrix came on in the 5th & gave up 1 hit over the final 3 frames.  Lexington climbed back into the game in the bottom of the 6th after C Johnny Turner singled, SS Derrick Smith walked,  LF Alex Brooks reached on an error scoring a run. CF Anthony Carden plated Smith & advanced Brooks to third on a fielder's choice but was picked off at 1st.  DH Jack Blackwell drove in Brooks with a sharp base hit to left & Gus White was hit by a pitch to put the winning run on 1st.  But that's where the Wildcats ran out of gas.  White took the tough loss for Lexington.  The Cats will take on S Aiken next Tuesday at home.  Gametime is 7:00.  Work hard &

GOLF TEAM TIES FOR 3RD
The Boy's Golf team shot 311 to tie for 3rd in the Lexington County Tee-Off Tournament yesterday at Charwood. Grant Bouknight shot 74 to tie for 4th individually, Jordan Sease shot 76 to tie for 8th and Cole Thornton shot 77 to tie for 10th. In the JV tournament Ajeet Badesha shot 75 to earn medalist honors. The Wildcats play their first regular season match Tuesday at home against Airport at 4:00.

JV TENNIS TEAM OPENS SEASON WITH WIN
The boy's JV tennis team defeated A C Flora 6-0 yesterday.  Winners were Brian Lim, Grayson Hill, William Lightle, Brandon Matthews, Ryan Lavisky, and the doubles team of Hampton Pickens and Zack Seymor.  The wildcats record is 1 - 0.  The JV team travels to Dorman for a match today at 5:30.

WILDCAT GOLFERS PLACE IN TOP 10
The Boy's Golf team shot 320 to finish 8th out of 22 teams in the
Outback Invitational in Aiken yesterday. Cole Thornton shot 78,
Christian Whitehead 80, Jordan Sease, Brooks Massey and
Grant Bouknight each shot 81. The golf team plays in the
Lexington County Tee-Off Tournament at Charwood tomorrow.

LADYCATS TOP DUTCH FORK
The Varsity Ladycat softball team played against Dutch Fork in a scrimmage match Saturday and won 8-3. Shanna Henson was the pitcher. Following that game the Lady Cats played #3 ranked Mauldin and lost 0-7. Sarah Parks was the pitcher. Write up by H. Parks

WILDCATS COME FROM BEHIND TO WIN MICHELIN CLASSIC
The varsity baseball team made it to the finals of the Michelin Classic and all set up to face Sumter for the championship. Lexington was down 6-2 in the seventh with 2 outs when senior Anthony Carden hit a grand slam to tie the game at 6! The final was 7-6 with Alex Brooks getting the win on the mound. Next up for the cats is a home game vs Dutch Fork on Tuesday to begin regular season play.

SPRING VALLEY BLANKS CATS 
  
 LEXINGTON vs SPRING VALLEY
The Vikings saved their best for last night's contest with the Wildcats at LHS & downed the Cats 8 - 0.  After dopping their first 2 games of The Michelin Classic, SVHS trotted out their ace, SMU signee Rob Harding against Lexington.  Harding ended with a complete game shutout & 11 K's.  The Wildcats committed 5 errors & left 10 runners stranded to add to their demise.  Although trailing 2 - 0 in the bottom of the 2nd, the Cats looked in good shape to start a rally when Soph catcher Jack Blackwell ripped a sharp single to left, the 1st hit off Harding.  The "Good Guys" loaded the bases but came up empty handed...a sign of things to come.  Centerfielder Anthony Carden ended up with 2 hits for the Cats but was left at 3rd both times.  Derrick Smith was tagged with the loss.  The Wildcats will regroup Saturday at White Knoll against Sumter in a 6:30 championship contest.  Let's get behind these guys & have a big crowd for this big game!!
